Fireworks- recording fireworks is really strange. There are two distinct things going on with fireworks- the sound of the explosion, and the powerful physical impact our bodies feel when all that sound energy reaches us. Thing is, the mics don’t have any way of capturing that physical impact; they can only record the pop sound of the initial explosion. So what ends up on tape? honestly, it doesn’t sound much different than popping popcorn in your kitchen. Even with my good mics, i think i had to boost the low end a little bit in this recording to make it actually sound more like fireworks than popcorn. But judge for yourself. This is taken in a grassy lunch area of a business parking lot, with birds chirping in the trees and the ambient air/wind with freeway traffic in the distant background throughout. A red-winged blackbird calls around 36 second in.

Sounds like a passenger jet landing that is relatively close. I made this in audacity by recording myself blowing into the microphone, then distorting it and stretching it to sound like a jet.

Numerous takes of knocking on a door from inside a house, from light tapping to heavy thuds. This version is recorded from about 10 meters or 25 feet.

A 24bit 29khz stereo recording of quite a rowdy sheep herd in a field. Has some very faint wind noise, but if used as ambiance it would not be noticeable. Calm at first, then heavy rain with some distant thunder rumbling. Recorded with a h4n zoom at 16-bit 48000 hz through my bathroom window.

A few loud sounds in the beginning, one massive and loud lightning and thunder. You can even hear the lightning crack before the thunder. Distant thunder follows with some birds chirping at the end. Recorded on a h4n zoom at 48khz 24bit.

After a rain storm, if it's a hot day the mist will rise, particularly in my river valley. There are railroad tracks on the far side of the valley from where i live, about five miles distant. In damp air the sound really carries. This file is unmodified.
